In 1953 , at the initiative of Antonio Pineda , a renowned silversmith , Silver Day was officially declared National Silver Fair , by the Government of the Republic and the state of Guerrero , where delivery is instituted annual National Award , maximum and only medal awarded to a craft , consisting of a gold medal, a diploma and a cash award winning work delivered to the National Competition Silverware, by President of the Republic in turn. It was Don Adolfo Ruiz Cortines , President , and Don Alejandro Gomez Maganda , Guerrero state governor , who corresponded give this special award and deliver the first National Award to Taxco Antonio Pineda Gomez , winner of the first national silverware .
