Taxco The word comes from the Nahuatl word " Tlachco " , which means " ball game " . The region was inhabited by the tlahuicas . The Aztecs had invaded from Izcóatl times but was not until 1445 that he was appointed a governor of the Aztec Empire and that settled the head of one of the 7 provinces tributary, the Aztecs settled in present state . The current Taxco was seated in the place was known as Tetelcingo , which in Nahuatl means "Hill Small " . The Spanish chose to settle in this place for its proximity to the mineral and its mild climate . In 1529 , the small town was formed by merchants , government officials of the Colony and some friars of the Franciscan convent of Cuernavaca. Don Celso Muñoz says the Spanish led Indians to work the mines. These were established in two neighborhoods : San Miguel ( Tlachcotecapan ) and Guadalupe ( Acayotla ) .

In the description of the Archdiocese of Mexico made in 1570 , mentions three mining centers : Royal Mines of Tetelcingo , Real de Minas de San Miguel and Royal Mines of Acayotla . Apparently the Royal Tetelcingo grew to absorb the other two , which called out by Taxco
